Northern Dutch Islands - Sand and Sea Game

Amsterdam is a beautiful city. There couples a crude vice with a strange calmness of water channels, boats and bicycles. We fly to the north towards the islands bordering the northern coast of the Netherlands - Friesland. We pass Amsterdam in a little distance north and go on to Texel island. We arrive at an airport of the same name after an hour`s flight.
[01.08.2006] [ The Netherlands ]

The weather is nice and I am trully dazzled by the sceneries which are created by the sea in connection with the sandy sea floor. At low tide, many shallows get bare and rise up from the water like new and new sand islands on ruffled surface.

We refuel at Texel and continue further with a short flight to Ameland island, where there is no avgas. We fly over Vlielan island. From the west, it looks like a flat muck of sand spilt into the sea and not until we are directly over it, we can see some vegetation and a little village on the eastern corner of the island.

A warm welcome awaits us at Ameland, like at all the other Dutch airports. We rent bikes and go to have a look around the island. The Netherlands can only be seen correctly from the bicycle seat.
